There are three basic types of single crypt mausoleums:
- A vault that is above ground and free-standing; it is built large enough to hold a single coffin.
- A building with the crypt opening on the outside (for example, a Garden Mausoleum).
- A walk-in mausoleum with the crypt opening on the inside of the building. These have spaces for sentimental artifacts and memorial accessories such as statuary, sculptures, vases, pictures, stained glass windows, etc. (for example, a Chapel Mausoleum). These private mausoleums offer more privacy for visiting family members.
